TEHRAN -- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad here on Sunday called on Pope Benedict XVI to adopt decisive stance against the crimes in the world.
Receiving the credentials of Vatican’s new ambassador to Tehran Archbishop Jean Paul Goble, Ahmadinejad stated, “Muslims, Christians, and all believers in the world will surely support the Pope’s rightful stances.”“The world’s problems can be resolved only through cooperation among the followers of divine religions, such as Muslims and Christians,” the president added.
He also said that some people such as those who affront the Holy Prophet deliberately fuel hostility to Muslims.
The Vatican envoy emphasized that the Christians and Muslims are united in various issues such as the recent insults to Islam and Quran.
Enemies of humanity should know that freedom of expression is not equivalent to “freedom of insult”, he added.
Displaying an anti-Islamic film made by a Dutch MP raised a wave of angry protests from the Islamic world.
Far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders launched a video called “Fitna”, with interspersed images of 9/11 attacks and other explosions with the Quranic verses. He included the cartoon done by a Dane, which ignited violent protests around the world and a boycott of Danish products in 2006.
